As a general rule of thumb when it comes to applying skincare, we like to work in layers from thinnest formula to thickest—meaning, that super-fluid serum should make contact with your skin before that rich moisturizer. Leave it to Kim Kardashian to have us completely rethinking all we thought was true.

In a post today on her website and app, the star writes about how important it is for her to put an emphasis on hydrating products, and goes into her exact method. "Keeping skin moisturized is is an essential part of any skincare regimen, and mine especially because of my psoriasis," she says. "I always start with a hyaluronic acid, which releases moisture back into the skin, and then end my routine using a facial oil to seal all of the products into the skin."

Following a layer of hyaluronic acid serum, Kardashian spreads on a generous amount of moisturizer, then uses a facial oil over the top. "Applying facial oil last acts as a barrier for the other moisturizers you applied. It seals all of the products so that they effectively hydrate the skin," she adds. "Common facial oils are argan or jojoba, but there are so many that deliver great benefits, like preventing acne, repairing dryness, and reducing signs of aging such as wrinkles and puffiness."

Typically our facial oil is first in line, or even second if we're using a serum, but clearly, taking the order, flipping it, and reversing it is working for Kim—check her insane glow for evidence.
