Golden Globe nominee Rosamund Pike (who you may remember from Gone Girl) was one of the first nominees on this year's red carpet at the Beverly Hilton Hotel and she made sure to steal the spotlight with an intricate and attention-grabbing addition to her lacy black tea-length dress: a veil. This year, she's up for one award, Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture, for her role of Elspeth Catton in Saltburn — a role that's eclipsed anything and everything Gone Girl thanks to the character's eccentricity and the film's viral moments (check TikTok if you don't believe us).
Pike's intricate veil was the perfect complement to her lacy Dior Haute Couture dress, which included a strapless silhouette paired with a Swiss dot overlay that added more floral embellishment on her shoulders and arms. The structured gown fell to her ankles to show off her sky-high platforms — though it was tough to pull attention away from the veil, which framed her face with two wing-shaped curves and a tiny, delicate bow on top. The over-the-top drama and all-eyes-on-me vibe of the entire look seemed to recall Catton's attitude, but Pike didn't mention whether or not the outfit took inspiration from her character's style.
After this year's nominations were announced, Pike gave her film's crew a shoutout and said it felt very special to be in a film that's resonated with so many people.
"The one thing I’m most proud of is that Emerald Fennell has made a film that adults are turning up in droves to see in the movie theaters. The last time I was really part of something like that, it was Gone Girl," she told Variety. "There’s a feeling that with this film, Emerald tapped into a zeitgeist. There’s something about our obsessions — whether it’s with celebrity or with sports stars or whatever — that she’s transposed and set amongst the English upper classes, but it’s the same thing. It’s the thing that we can’t have that we love and loathe in equal measure, the way that people feast on Instagram over lifestyles that they can’t have and are envious of and want in the in the same breath."
