The DC Extended Universe is in a little bit of a pickle these days as its films have not lived up to the expectations of its main competitor. Marvel has once again taken over as the preeminent franchise in superhero movies and television series, especially with the recent release of the Marvel Cinematic Universe Phase Four film Thor: Love and Thunder. But for DC, box office returns are just part of the problem, as the stars of its movies have created quite a stir in real-life that may detract from the overall goals that the DCEU has in store. Specifically, Ezra Miller and their many scandals to date have resulted in many fans of their character Barry Allen, aka The Flash, being recast. One of the names to come up recently to replace Ezra Miller has been Elliot Page.

According to CNBC, Ezra Miller’s ongoing legal troubles have created a headache for Warner Bros., which owns the DC Extended Universe and Miller’s upcoming solo project, The Flash. Scheduled to be released in June 2023, Miller stars in the movie just as they did in 2016’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and 2017’s Justice League, this time taking center stage. All of their scenes have been filmed, and production wrapped in October 2021. However, the actor’s legal battles are currently playing a part in a campaign to replace them in the finished film, including a choking incident, multiple alleged altercations, grooming attempts, and reports of abuse and harassment, as detailed by Complex. Along with the pressure Warner Bros. is receiving right now to replace Ezra Miller, fans are taking to social media hoping Elliot Page steps in instead.

The feature-length film The Flash, starring Ezra Miller, is one of the next steps in the DC Extended Universe’s plan to capture audience attention and bring people back to theaters. Along with the upcoming Black Adam starring Dwayne Johnson and Shazam! Fury of the Gods, The Flash is set to explore other characters outside of the typical Batman and Superman franchises that audiences have grown accustomed to over the years. Since fans seem to be obsessed with the idea of The Umbrella Academy’s Elliot Page taking over for Ezra Miller, some publications have also made a case for the replacement. MIC notes the fan campaign but also points out that Grant Gustin could also take over the role. Gustin has played Barry Allen on The CW’s Arrowverse version of The Flash for eight seasons and could easily transition from television to film with fans already used to seeing him as the Scarlet Speedster..

Just want to take this moment to say Elliot Page would make a great Barry Allen, in case there's ever a need to, you know, cast a new Flash, for whatever reason. pic.twitter.com/61zGO2GKp1

Recasting Ezra Miller with Elliot Page or anyone else would be a tall order for Warner Bros. at this late stage. Since The Flash has completed filming and post-production on its visual effects is underway, it might be too late for the studio to reshoot all of Miller’s scenes with another actor. However, Miller’s ongoing issues are playing out in real-time, forcing fans to come up with their own solutions to the DC Extended Universe’s problems.
